The Foundation of the House | Cloth, Rarity, and the Discipline of Selection
Before a garment is cut, structured, or fitted, it exists first as cloth.
At Signature Bespoke, fabric is never approached as decoration. It is the foundation of the garment itself, determining how it moves, how it performs, and how it will be remembered over time.
The selection of cloth defines everything that follows.
For this reason, our collections are built around some of the world’s most exclusive and respected fabrics, sourced from heritage mills whose standards have shaped tailoring for generations.
The Meaning of Super Numbers
Within tailoring, the term “Super” refers to the fineness of the wool fibre itself. The higher the number, the finer and softer the yarn becomes.
However, true luxury is not found in numbers alone. It is found in balance.
At Signature Bespoke, our cloth collections range from refined Super 110s and Super 120s through to exceptionally rare Super 200s fabrics, placing the house among a very limited number of tailoring houses in the United Kingdom able to offer such cloths within its collection.
A Super 110s cloth offers a composed drape with exceptional versatility, maintaining form throughout daily use while carrying a refined finish. Super 120s introduces an even greater softness and fluidity, creating garments with a lighter, more elevated hand.
At the highest level sits Super 200s. Remarkably fine and extraordinarily limited in production, these fabrics represent the furthest expression of softness and refinement within wool tailoring. Their rarity lies not only in the fineness of the fibre itself, but in the difficulty of producing cloth that maintains elegance while carrying such delicacy.
These fabrics are not mass-produced commodities. They are woven in limited quantities by mills whose standards have been protected over decades, in some cases centuries.
The distinction is understood immediately upon touch.
English Fabrics and the Heritage of Cloth
The world’s finest tailoring houses have long relied upon English cloth for one reason above all others, consistency.
Working with heritage mills including Holland & Sherry and Scabal, our collections are selected for their ability to hold structure, respond naturally to movement, and retain composure over time.
Weight, weave, and texture are considered in relation to both environment and purpose. A business garment requires a different behaviour to evening wear. A winter cloth must carry authority without heaviness. A summer fabric must remain breathable without losing definition.
At this level, cloth is engineered as much as it is woven.
Egyptian Cotton and Silk Shirting
The foundation of shirting lies in refinement.
Our shirt collections incorporate some of the finest Egyptian cottons available, chosen for their exceptional fibre length, smoothness, and ability to maintain clarity after repeated wear.
The result is a fabric with remarkable softness while still retaining the crispness expected of a properly structured shirt.
Alongside this, silk blends introduce an entirely different character. Light responds differently across the surface. Movement becomes softer. The garment carries an unmistakable sense of fluidity and depth.
These are fabrics selected not for excess, but for precision in feel, finish, and presence.
The Rarity of Vicuña
Among the rarest fibres in the world sits vicuña.
Sourced from the small Andean animal from which it takes its name, vicuña is recognised as one of the most exclusive materials in existence. Its fibres are exceptionally fine, remarkably soft, and produced only in extremely limited quantities.
For centuries, vicuña was reserved exclusively for royalty and heads of state. Even today, its rarity places it beyond conventional luxury.
The fabric carries an almost weightless softness while maintaining extraordinary warmth and elegance in drape. To experience vicuña is to understand that true rarity is not loud. It is quiet, controlled, and immediately recognisable to those who understand it.
At Signature Bespoke, such fabrics are approached with restraint and respect. Their value lies not in visibility, but in the standard they represent.
Cloth as Identity
A garment should never rely on branding to communicate quality.
Its cloth should speak first.
This is why fabric selection remains central to the philosophy of the house. Every commission begins with understanding not only how the garment should appear, but how it should feel, perform, and evolve over time.
From refined English woollens to Egyptian cotton shirting and the rarity of vicuña, each cloth within Signature Bespoke is selected with intent.
Because at a certain level, luxury is not declared. It is recognised.
